1 Day To Go!

With one day until the election, Oregon is still a solidly blue state. Obama should recieve the 7 electoral votes of Oregon with ease.

Obama has greatly outspent McCain here on advertisements. CNN reports Obama spending $1,051,672 to only $10,016 spent by McCain. This helps Obama significantly in this already traditionally blue state. Obama has also raised more money in Oregon than McCain, signaling the clear favorite. CNN reports Obama has raised $3,994,939 and McCain has raised $1,094,659.

Also, the most recent polls have shown an even greater gap favoring Obama. The SurveyUSA poll from October 29-30 reports Obama at 57% to McCain's 38%. The most recent Rasmussen poll also shows a large gap, Obama at 54% to McCain 42%.

These factors help make it an easy call for Obama.

New Obama Ads in Oregon

10 Days to Go

With 10 days to go until election, Oregon strongly favors Obama. The race was never really close here, but in the past month the gap has widened even further.

The DailyKos.com/Research 2000 poll reports Obama with a 15 point lead over McCain, 53% to 38%. The Rasmussen poll also shows Obama with a strong lead, with 54%, compared to McCain at 41%. The last time any poll from pollster.com reported a Republican lead was back in February.

Obama also has more endorsements in Oregon than McCain does. The Oregonian endorses Barack Obama primarily because of his economic plan and presumed ability to help fix the economy. Other newspapers endorsing Obama include The Daily Astorian, Mail Tribune, Register-Guard, Stateman-Journal, and Yamhill Valley News. The only newspaper endorsement for McCain is from the Bend Bulletin.

The Senate race between Democrat Jeff Merkley and Republican Gordon Smith also has an influence on the election. With so much momentum behind Obama now, new ads are focusing on a Democratic House and Senate to back the policies of Obama. One of the key issues of these ads is the environment and promoting clean energy.

In addition, Oregon has voted Democrat in the past four election cycles. There would need to be a drastic change in issues or the Republican stance on issues, and unfortunately for McCain, no such change has occurred.

For these reasons I believe Oregon will vote for Obama.

50 Days To Go

There are 50 days to go until the election, and Oregon is moderately favoring Obama.

The most current polls at Pollster.com show Obama leading 47% to McCain's 41.1%. Over the past few months the gap has been widening and showing Obama will a more clear lead.

Oregon has voted Democrat the past four election cycles. In the 1992 presidential election, Clinton took Oregon with 42.48% of the vote, Bush received 32.53% and Perot received 24.21%. Clinton took Oregon again in the 1996 election with 47.15% of the vote, Dole received 39.06% and Perot took 8.8%. in 2000 Gore barely took the state with 46.96%, Bush received 46.52% and Nader received 5.04% of the vote. Kerry won Oregon in 2004 with 51% and Bush had 47%.

Neither of the two candidates will likely stop here, as there are not many electoral votes at stake (7) and is not influential enough to help either candidate at this point in the race. Read the article from The Oregonian here.
